Google's Inevitable Impact on Gaming

Minimise Abstract

Abstract

In 2006, Google approached Yahoo to talk about cooperation on casual games. The talks went nowhere and Google dropped off the digital games landscape. Behind the scenes, Google engineers were working on platforms designed to support interactive experiences, personalization, and reuse of content objects.
In this talk, Stephen E Arnold, author of three monographs about Google's technology, will discuss Google's technology for allowing developers to use Google video as "real life" backgrounds for games and other information constructs. He will also review the "hooks" in the Android operating system that pick up on the theme of casual gaming. Finally, he will review the Chrome technology and its applicability to online games.
The conclusion of the talk focuses on the opportunity Google affords developers of games or game-centric interfaces.
